SRM GPA Calculator

By • Updated October 26, 2026

Calculate your SRMIST semester GPA (SGPA) and cumulative CGPA from your course credits and grades. The calculator uses the 10-point grade scale and credit-weighted formulas published in SRMIST's academic regulations.

Grade Details

Enter the credits and grade of each credit course in the semester. Blank rows are ignored, and subject name and code are optional.

Calculation Results

Enter your credits and grades, then press Calculate GPA.

Checked Against Official Regulations:

Grade points and formulas follow SRMIST's published Academic Regulations 2018 (B.Tech) and 2021 (B.Tech / Integrated M.Tech). This is an independent tool and is not affiliated with SRMIST. Your official grade card is always final.

What Is an SRM GPA Calculator?

An SRM GPA calculator works out your Semester Grade Point Average (SGPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) from the credits and letter grades on your SRMIST grade card. You pick a grade and enter the credits for each course, and the calculator does the multiplying, adding and rounding.

It is handy before results come out, when you want to estimate where you will land, and after results, when you want to check your grade card. It also shows how much each course matters. A 4-credit theory course moves your SGPA far more than a 1.5-credit lab.

How to Calculate GPA at SRM University

SRMIST uses a credit-weighted 10-point system. The B.Tech regulations (R 15.2 in 2018, R 8.6 in 2021) define SGPA and CGPA with these formulas:

Semester GPA (SGPA)

SGPA = Σ (Cᵢ × GPᵢ) ÷ Σ Cᵢ

Cᵢ is the credit of each course and GPᵢ its grade point. The sum covers every course taken that semester, including courses with an F grade.

Cumulative GPA (CGPA)

CGPA = Σ (Sᵢ × SGPAᵢ) ÷ Σ Sᵢ

Sᵢ is the total credits of each semester. Both SGPA and CGPA are rounded to two decimal places.

  1. 1 List your courses: Note the credits and letter grade of every credit course in the semester.
  2. 2 Convert grades to points: O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8, B+ = 7, B = 6, C = 5, and F, Ab or I = 0.
  3. 3 Multiply and add: Multiply credits by grade points for each course, then add all the products.
  4. 4 Divide and round: Divide by the total credits and round to two decimals.

Two rules catch students out. First, a failed course still counts: its credits go into the total while it adds zero points, so an F pulls your SGPA down. Second, mandatory non-credit courses get a letter grade but are not counted in SGPA or CGPA, so leave them out of the calculator.

How to Use This SRM GPA Calculator

  1. 1 Pick a mode: Choose Semester GPA for one semester or CGPA to combine semesters.
  2. 2 Choose your regulation: The 2021 Regulations cover B.Tech students admitted from 2022-23 and Integrated M.Tech students admitted from 2021-22. Your curriculum document names the regulation that applies to you. For other programmes, use the custom option.
  3. 3 Enter your courses: Add the credits and select the grade for each course. Use Add Subject for more rows, and leave unused rows blank.
  4. 4 Calculate: Press Calculate GPA. After the first calculation, the result updates as you edit.
  5. 5 Read and save: Check your SGPA, credits registered, credits earned and the course-wise breakdown. Copy, download or print it, or send it to the CGPA tab with one click.

How to Calculate SRM CGPA

Your SRM CGPA combines every semester so far. For each semester, multiply the SGPA by that semester's total credits. Add these figures and divide by the total credits of all semesters.

Do not take a simple average of your SGPAs. A 22-credit semester should count for more than a 17.5-credit one, and the regulations weight it that way. The credits to use are the same total that was used to calculate that semester's SGPA.

When you clear a failed course later, the old F, Ab or I grade is removed from your record and the CGPA is revised. After a re-attempt, use the SGPA and credit figures on your latest grade card.

Need a percentage? Under the 2021 Regulations (R 8.7), the equivalent percentage is CGPA × 10. The calculator shows it when the 2021 Regulations are selected.

SRM Grade Points and Credit System

The B.Tech 2018 regulations (R 11.1) and the B.Tech / Integrated M.Tech 2021 regulations (R 8.1) use the same letter grades and grade points:

Letter Grade Grade Points Marks / Reason
O (Outstanding) 10 91 – 100
A+ (Excellent) 9 81 – 90
A (Very Good) 8 71 – 80
B+ (Good) 7 61 – 70
B (Above Average) 6 56 – 60
C (Average) 5 50 – 55
F (Fail) 0 Below 50
Ab (Absent) 0 Absent for the exam
I (Incomplete) 0 Attendance below 75%

To pass a course you need at least 50% of the total normalised marks. You earn a course's credits only with a grade from O to C. F means insufficient marks, Ab means absent for the exam, and I means attendance below 75%.

Credits come from weekly teaching hours: 1 credit per lecture hour, 1 per tutorial hour and 0.5 per practical hour. That is why values such as 1.5 or 2.5 credits are common, and the calculator accepts them.

SRM GPA Calculation Example

This example uses the official grade points. The course names and credits are illustrative, so use the credits from your own curriculum.

Course Credits Grade Points Credits × Points
Mathematics4O1040
Programming4A+936
Physics3A824
English3B+721
Engineering Graphics2B612
Physics Lab1.5O1015
Total17.5148

SGPA = 148 ÷ 17.5 = 8.457… ≈ 8.46

Now suppose the next two semesters give SGPAs of 7.90 (22 credits) and 9.10 (21 credits). The CGPA is (8.46 × 17.5 + 7.90 × 22 + 9.10 × 21) ÷ 60.5 = 512.95 ÷ 60.5 = 8.48. A plain average of the three SGPAs would give 8.49, which is not how SRMIST calculates it. Under the 2021 Regulations, 8.48 equals 84.80%.

GPA vs CGPA — What Is the Difference?

GPA (SGPA)

Measures one semester. It uses the credits and grades of the courses you took in that semester only.

CGPA

Measures your whole programme so far. It combines every semester's SGPA, weighted by credits.

Your SGPA can jump around from semester to semester. Your CGPA moves more slowly, because each new semester is only one part of a growing total. Placements and higher studies usually ask for CGPA.
