Month-Wise Arrears Breakdown

Switch to Advanced Mode to edit any month.

Estimates only. Your DDO / PAO computes the final arrears as per the government order. DA, TA DA, NPS and tax are rounded to the nearest rupee each month (50 paise and above to the next rupee), as in Government DA orders.

Expert Verified:

The month-wise method follows the DA/DR orders issued by the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, under the 7th CPC. Preset rates match notified Central instalments up to 1 January 2026. Your final arrears are computed by your DDO or pension disbursing bank.

What Is a DA Arrears Calculator — Meaning for Govt Employees & Pensioners

Dearness Allowance (DA) is paid to government employees to offset price rise. Pensioners get the same benefit as Dearness Relief (DR). The rate is revised twice a year, with effect from 1 January and 1 July.

The new rate is usually approved two to four months after its effective date. Salary keeps getting paid at the old rate until the order comes. The unpaid difference for those months is called DA arrears (or DR arrears for pensioners).

This DA arrears calculator rebuilds that difference month by month. It shows what you should receive before any deductions, and what lands in your account after NPS, tax and earlier payments.

Quick Mode

One Basic Pay for the whole period, with an optional 3% increment in January or July.

Advanced Mode

Edit Basic Pay or rates for any month and add several DA revision slabs.

DA Arrears Calculation Formula — How Monthly Arrears Are Calculated

Under the 7th CPC, DA is a percentage of Basic Pay in the Pay Matrix. So the arrear for a month is simply the extra DA percentage applied to that month's Basic Pay.

DA / DR Arrear

Monthly Arrear = Basic × (Revised % − Old %) ÷ 100

Total Arrear = Sum of all eligible months

TA Arrear & Net Payable

TA Arrear = TA × (Revised % − Old %) ÷ 100

Net = Gross − NPS − Tax − Earlier Payments

The DA percentage itself comes from the 12-month average of the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). The decimal part is dropped, which is why hikes come in whole numbers such as 2% or 3%.

Recent 7th CPC DA / DR Rates (Central Government)

Effective From DA / DR Rate Hike
1 July 202663% (expected, order pending)+3
1 January 202660%+2
1 July 202558%+3
1 January 202555%+2
1 July 202453%+3
1 January 202450%+4
1 July 202346%+4

The 1 January 2026 instalment was approved by the Union Cabinet on 18 April 2026. As of mid-October 2026, no order has been issued for the July 2026 instalment.

Step-by-Step Example of Month-Wise DA & TA Arrears Calculation

Take a Level 7 employee with Basic Pay of ₹44,900 and Transport Allowance of ₹3,600. DA went from 58% to 60% from 1 January 2026, and the arrears cover January to March 2026.

  1. 1 Find the rate hike: 60% − 58% = 2 percentage points.
  2. 2 Monthly DA arrear: ₹44,900 × 2 ÷ 100 = ₹898.
  3. 3 Monthly TA arrear: ₹3,600 × 2 ÷ 100 = ₹72.
  4. 4 Multiply by months: (₹898 + ₹72) × 3 = ₹2,910 gross.
  5. 5 Deduct NPS: 10% of the monthly DA arrear (₹898) = ₹89.80, rounded to ₹90. For 3 months that is ₹270, so net before tax = ₹2,640.
Month DA @58% DA @60% DA Diff TA Diff Gross
Jan 2026₹26,042₹26,940₹898₹72₹970
Feb 2026₹26,042₹26,940₹898₹72₹970
Mar 2026₹26,042₹26,940₹898₹72₹970
Total₹78,126₹80,820₹2,694₹216₹2,910

If Basic Pay changes inside the period, each month uses its own Basic. For example, ₹50,000 in one month and ₹52,000 in the next at a 3-point hike gives ₹1,500 + ₹1,560 = ₹3,060.

How NPS Deduction, Income Tax & HRA Revision Impact Your Arrears

NPS / UPS deduction

Employees under NPS or UPS contribute 10% of Basic Pay plus DA. So 10% of the DA arrear is recovered along with it. Transport Allowance is not part of this base, so the TA arrear has no NPS cut.

Income tax on arrears

DA arrears are taxable as salary in the year you receive them. The calculator applies your selected slab plus 4% cess to the gross arrear. If a large lump sum pushes you into a higher slab, ask your DDO about arrears relief (earlier claimed under Section 89(1) with Form 10E).

HRA revision at 50% DA

When DA reached 50% from 1 January 2024, HRA was revised to 30%, 20% and 10% of Basic Pay for X, Y and Z cities. HRA is calculated on Basic Pay, not on DA, so it does not change with each DA hike. HRA arrears are paid separately and are not part of this calculator.

States set their own DA rates and dates, and they often trail the Centre. Some states pay arrears in instalments or credit them to GPF. Always use the rate and period from your state's order.

For Central pensioners aged 80 and above, DR is also paid on the additional pension. Add it to Basic Pension before calculating.
